MnCCC Spotlight: Jody Wagner, Rice County

MnCCC Spotlight Jody Wagner Rice County

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I am a Minnesotan, born and raised. I love the cold and hate heat. I grew up in the northern suburbs (Lino Lakes and Forest Lake). I graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a Bachelor of Accounting Degree. I spent twelve years in the private sector working for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota and its affiliates in the functional areas of accounting, billing, quality assurance, reporting and analysis. I transitioned to the public sector in 2015. I met my farmer husband in 2008 and became a farm girl (it shocked me too😊). I moved to the southern suburbs (Elko New Market), where we built a house on his family farm. When I am not working my ‘day’ job, I help him farm corn and soybeans. I am not allowed to plant (I don’t drive straight) or run the combine/drive the semi (once was enough), but give me a tractor and a field cultivator, plow, grain cart or stalk chopper and I will get the job done. We have been happily married for fourteen years and have one indoor fur-baby, a cat named Runter. In my spare time, when I am not a property tax & elections administrator, farmer, chauffeur, cook, bookkeeper, or housekeeper, I am an avid reader and snowmobiler.

What was your first job?

My first cash jobs were babysitting neighborhood kids and a Dictaphone typist. My first job drawing a regular paycheck was a clerk at a video store – BEST JOB EVER!!! – free popcorn and advance movie screenings of all the VHS tapes you can imagine.

What is your role at your county?

I joined Rice County in 2015. I am currently the Property Tax & Elections Assistant Director, within a department of eight. I also serve as the Aumentum Tax User Group Legislative Co-Chair and am currently the MnCCC Executive Board Vice Chair and MnCCC Board Liaison to the Aumentum Tax User Group and the Human Services User Group.

What interests you about MnCCC?

I value stewardship – and I believe MnCCC is a great example of an organization showcasing that responsibility. MnCCC creates value for its members through offering opportunities for governmental agencies to collaborate, network, train and contract together on cost-effective technology solutions to optimize our public resources. MnCCC and its members are a group of knowledgeable and passionate people – I have found the opportunities to work and connect with these folks invaluable.

What is something on your bucket list?

My bucket list includes dining at a Michelin starred restaurant, storm watching on Oregon’s Adventure Coast, participating in a dinosaur fossil digging expedition and learning the art of glass blowing and/or stained glass making.
