MnCCC Spotlight: Michelle May

Michelle May Spotlight

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’ve been the Auditor/Treasurer/Coordinator since January 2018.  Previously, I was the Finance Manager at Yellow Medicine County for about 6 years.  I am originally from Ankeny, Iowa and attended the University of Minnesota where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance.  After college, I worked as an auditor for KPMG and at Schwan’s in Marshall. After leaving KPMG, I moved to Granite Falls where my husband is originally from.  We have two boys ages 2 and 4 years old.  I enjoy exercising (when I make time), gardening, and spending time with friends and family.

What was your first job?

My first job was at a dry cleaners. I worked the main counter taking in dirty clothes, providing customer service, running cash register, and tagging the clothes that came in.  From time to time, I would help run the steamers or change out the machines.  I also worked for my high school’s athletic department doing scoreboards for softball, basketball, and baseball games.

What is your role with Chippewa county?

I am the Auditor/Treasurer/Coordinator.  I wear many hats and enjoy all of the challenges.

What interests you about MnCCC?

MnCCC has created a good system for reviewing contracts, vetting vendors, and negotiating for services and solutions for Counties.  The organizational structure is still a bit of a mystery to me, but generally, they’ve put some good pieces in place to benefit their members.

What is something on your bucket list?

There are many places in the world I’d like to travel to and cultures I’d like to experience.  COVID and a couple of little kids make it more challenging these days, but hopefully someday.
