MnCCC Spotlight: Lisa Meredith

Lisa Meredith Spotlight

What was your first job?

Babysitting neighbor kids, in fact I did babysitting up through college. I also had a very brief stint in my teens as an “Avon Lady”, then my first job with a regular paycheck was Hardees.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

Jerry and I live on the east side of Saint Paul, near Lake Phalen. His girls, Nissa 15 and Aliah 17, live with us about half of the time. And, we complete our family with Oliver a 14 pound, black and white Coton de Tulear (little furry dog). In my free time, I love refurbishing and repurposing furniture, gardening, cooking, and facilitation work. I have also done some teaching. And, I love event planning! I used to run a women social organization called “Twin Cities Hip Chicks” which was started by a friend of mine. And though I’m not involved anymore, I still plan brunches, outings, and other fun activity. With the current stay at home situation, I am teaming up with a friend to host a virtual team scavenger hunt with friends!

What interests you about MnCCC?

Collaboration! The amazing people that come together to make great things happen. The support, connection, care, and friendships that exist within our members! How lucky am I to work with such amazing people – my staff, my members, and our vendors! Plus, I love facilitation work and I get to do it every day in my job! It’s challenging, but worthwhile in every way in that we have a huge impact on the people in Minnesota. It’s very rewarding!

What is your role at MnCCC?

I’m the ED…executive director. I started in 2001 shortly after 9/11. I’ve been with the organization for going on 19 years. As a small team, we all do a little bit of everything…one day I’m a contract negotiator, the next a mediator with a member and vendor, then a trainer, event planner, and the next person unjamming the copier. We all pitch in and do what needs to be done to assist our members. This week, I’m working at mastering zoom!

What is something on your bucket list you'd like to do?

Well, this week it is to be able to leave the house!  I’d like to travel more – return to Paris, visit the Galapagos, and I’ve never been to Hawaii. I’m working on publishing a workbook on strategic planning – I hope to publish in the next several months.
