MnCCC Spotlight - Kelly Hendrickson, Freeborn County

MnCCC Spotlight Kelly Hendrickson, Freeborn County

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

My name is Kelly Hendrickson.  My husband, Stu and I have three children.  Our daughter Niki and her husband John Powers have one daughter, Penelope and a pup named Louie.  Our daughter Hali and her husband Ben Blood, have two children, Jet and June.  Our son Koby and his girlfriend, Hannah Conn, have a pup named Kai.  Currently Niki and John are visiting Hali’s family in Frankfurt, Germany.  Our son-in-law Ben plays professional hockey overseas.  We have always been heavily involved in our kids activities and now get to enjoy that time with our grandkids and grandpups.  In my spare time, I enjoy photography.

What was your first job?

My first job was working at a nursing home in Ashby, Mn (Grant County) and I truly loved it.

What is your role at Freeborn County?

I am in my 6th year in Freeborn County. Prior to that I worked in a law firm for 35 years.   I am the Recorder and also recently the Interim Auditor-Treasurer, with the retirement of Pat Martinson.   I started out in the Auditor’s office and moved into the Chief Deputy Auditor-Treasurer role before becoming Recorder.  I feel very fortunate to have worked with and for Pat Martinson.  Her mentorship has been priceless and she will be missed by Freeborn County.

What interests you about MnCCC?

Where do I start?  Our county has been very involved with MnCCC and I felt it was my time to take a more active role.  I am the liaison for the HR & Payroll User Group and the Chair for the Avenu Tax user group.  MnCCC has been a great resource to meet colleagues from other counties, to collaborate and assist counties with various issues that come our way.  The trainings that MnCCC provides are top-notch!  The trainings are a great way to provide growth for your team members in various areas.  I am looking forward to Women in Government on March 8, 2024.  I would highly encourage you to attend this event!   The team at MnCCC is truly amazing and I feel very lucky to be able to work with them.

What is something on your bucket list?

I’d love to be able to travel to Frankfurt, Germany to see the kids and go to some of Ben’s hockey games.  I have followed them to Austria and Finland thus far. Otherwise, I’d say a hot air balloon ride and more travel would be at the top of my list.  I have invited myself along with Niki and John when they travel to Florida to help with Penelope…I am still waiting for a reply 😊
